Why I can't write a book in prison

The title is not some harsh critique on myself or abilities, I literally am not able to get or buy the materials to write a book. "What materials" you ask? Well, being in federal prison (where your millions upon millions of tax dollars go every year), I have access to typewriters. Yeah... like what you see on movies made in the 60s. These ones look fancy and new, like maybe from the late 70s: godawful brown and tan color schemes, thundering, clacking, noisy hunks of crap. I'm fine with all that. The problem is, these things also have to have a letter wheel, a ribbon of ink, and a correction ribbon. I won't get into all the 'whys' of these technical aspects but suffice it to say that they are absolutely necessary, and I can't get them.

The prison says they're going to get us electronic word processors. They've been saying that for about a year now, so of course they have foregone the hassle and great effort it takes to... sell us the appropriate items on store.

You may say like many others "just use your hands". You may be forgiven for not reading some of my other entries here that talk/moan about how my hands are plagued with tremendous and nonsensical nerve pain from carpal tunnel issues, surgeries, etc... I can barely write for 2 minutes without pain and have to switch hands: a useful little trick I had to learn over the YEARS because my hands have caused me so much pain.

I do have the option to type it here, on my email account. For 5 cents a minute. In 15 min intervals! Standing. There are no chairs for when you’re at the computers here.

This single issue is real, but also a metaphor for most everything that is wrong with this place. I go to medical, and they tell me to buy my own medication. The store (which I can only go to once a week) doesn't have them in stock! Or how about being told to take a program that will get you out a few months earlier and.... the program isn't taught here!

So, in short, I'll be writing my books soon, just not THAT soon. At the latest, I'll be out in 2025. the world will wait. Wont you?
